To Whom It May Concern:
As of December 2, 2008, the leaders of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) in Thailand held a press conference, stating the disbandment of all protests in Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Don Mueang International Airport, and Government House. This was in response to the dissolution of corrupt political parties in Thailand that had been elected by fraudulent means.
The past 190 consecutive days of peaceful and nonviolent protest held by the PAD was a collective rally to end the corrupt and tyrannical domination that former Prime Minister, Thaksin Shiniwatra and his puppet parliament, had incorporated into Thailand’s government system. The reason as to why we call the most recent government a puppet parliament is because the politicians who were in office were Thaksin Shiniwatra’s underlings and were still acting on behalf of their and his personal interests instead of the interests of the Kingdom of Thailand and its people. The PAD is not a terrorist group; nowhere did the protesters initiate or rally with weapons or caused serious harm. For every rally and march, the PAD announced with fair warning of its actions beforehand. Several times, government officials and opposing forces threatened and implemented physical harm, which even resulted in several deaths among our protesters.
Taking over the international airports and Government House were necessary and tantamount to the dissolution of the corrupt parliament in power. The people of Thailand had no other options for their voices to be heard and their basic needs to be met, all important factors for maintaining human civilization and democracy. These were factors that the puppet parliament was ignoring for the people; instead, they were spending the people’s money on lavish vacations and investing in personal interests. The government took away the people’s voices and censored and manipulated national television for their own gains. Without the PAD, the people of Thailand would still be cowering in fear of corrupt politicians and government officials. Throughout the entire time, the free cable tv, ASTV, broadcasted the goings-on of the protest, twenty-four hours nonstop, and provided free global viewing on their website http://www.manager.co.th. Thai people from almost every country came to join the protest and help fight for Thailand, its religion, and the King. The three pillars for Thai society that were being seriously threatened by Thaksin Shiniwatra and his puppet parliament.
We thus highly urge the United Nations to consider their perspective of the PAD’s actions in taking over the international airports and Government House in a comprehensive and thorough manner. We urge you to take into account that countless millions of Thai people across the world have banded and worked together in accordance to fight the corruption that existed within Thaksin Shiniwatra’s puppet parliament.
Regards,
The Citizens Of The Kingdom Of Thailand
