People’s Alliance for Democracy Announcement 28/2008
The People’s Alliance for Democracy was rallying for a total of 193 days from May 25, 2008 to December 3, 2008 as announced in the Announcement No.27/2008 of December 2, 2008.
Throughout the course of the rally, the rights and the freedom of PAD to hold a gathering, receiving information were violated. People were injured, our properties were destroyed by state officers and government-sponsored racketeers both in Bangkok and outside i.e., Khon Khaen, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mahasarakam, Sakol Nakorn, Sri Saket, Buriram, Udornthani.
There were 7 people killed, one comatosed, six crippled, 625 injured while the culprits have never been arrested or punished. Not a single one. In addition, there was one strongly devoted PAD supporter who lost his life during the rally.
We wish to express a deepest regret to the families of the deceased, the crippled, and the injured during the rally. We wish to highly praise and admire all of the deceased, the crippled, and the injured as “Heroes/Heroines” who, both inside and outside the assembly, defended and protected the nation, the Monarchy and the Constitution. They will be forever inscribed in the history and in our minds. The names of the “Heroes/Heroines” are as follows:
1. Miss Angkana Raduppanyawoot, an unarmed peaceful protester, killed by police officers using weapons fired to kill people from the Metropolitan Police Headquarters in the evening of October 7, 2008.
2. Police Lieutenant Colonel Methee Chatmontri, a volunteer guard of PAD, murdered and the evidences destroyed by a car bomb during the police’s brutal dispersal of people’s rally in front of the House of Parliament on October 7, 2008.
3. Mr.Somlert Kasemsuk, a protester and a coordinator of PAD’s taxis. He had joined the rally all along and succumbed to death from a heart disease during a rally on Pitsanulok road, besides the Government House on October 19, 2008.
4. Mr.Jenkit Kladsakorn, a protester who was unarmed and peacefully sitting, listening to the stage speeches in the Government house. He sufferred from an M79 grenade explosion fired from outside the rally site, cutting through the tent roof in the night of November 20, 2008.
5. Mr.Yuthapong Samerpap, a volunteer guard who was distributing water and food to the military polices at the Misakawan intersection. He was killed with an M79 grenade explosion fired from beside the wall of the Metropolitan Police Headquarters on November 22, 2008.
6. Mr.Setha Jiamkitwatana, a father of the leader of Royal Panther troop which is an alliance radio station in Chiang Mai, broadcasting PAD’s rally live. He was surrounded by about 50 govermment-backed racketeers armed with guns, knives and iron bars, who shot, chopped his arm and beat him to death in the night of November 26, 2008.
7. Miss Kamolwan Muennoo, a protester who was unarmed and peacefully sitting, listening to the stage speeches in the Government house. She suffered from an M79 grenade explosion fired by government agents from outside the rally site, cutting through the tent roof, in the night of November 30, 2008.
8. Mr.Ronachai Chaisri, a protester who was unarmed and peacefully rallying at Don Muang airport. He suffered from an M79 grenade explosion fired by government agents from the toll way into the rally site while most of the protesters were asleep in the night of December 1, 2008.
In order that the lost of lives, organs, and the injuries of the Heroes/Heroines would not be a lost in vain, we shall fight on to remain our objectives to contine to defend and protect the nation, the religions, the Monarchy and the Constitution. We shall at our best also find the culprits to be punished.
We express our highest gratitude to all brothers and sisters compatriots who joined PAD.
We express our highest gratitude to all brothers and sisters compatriots who supported the rally, donating money, food, water, and all sorts of materials to make possible a continuous rally and eventually the achievements of the objectives.
We express our highest gratitude to all alliances which enabled an efficient rally, particularly ASTV satellite cable television, Dhamma Army Foundation officers, Santi Asoke, Confederation of State Enterprise Labour Unions, volunteer guards, Srivichai guards, PAD ’s alliances in every province, artists networks, all alliance nongovernment organizations, and all media.
193 days of rally make it the longest rally in Thai political history, through the three seasons, from summer, rainy and into winter. The rally passed through the sufferings and the happinesses, laughters and tears. Of which will be recorded as a forever great history, it is the birth of the brave citizens, dedicating, trusting, and sacrificing to defend the nation, the religions and the Monarchy.
