I am hoping to put together a letter to the Washington Post or wherever would be most feasible to combat the lies, disinformation I have been picking up lately in our news media over here. At the very least, the New York Times today has switched to a more investigative stance in reporting what is going on.

The New York Times today most of all reports that some of the protests, influx of thousands of people into Bangkok, most likely could have been planned from outside the country, with Thaksin taking shelter in Montenegro now, but just previously in Dubai. I may find it on this blog or elsewhere what his travels have been, but I had imagined that he was being given sanctuary right across the border in Cambodia, which of course could exacerbate tensions that way.
I thoroughly resent it that Dubai might have ever given Thaksin sanctuary, and if this has been any time recently, for instance in the past three months, it makes Dubai, unwittingly or not - while an offshore tax haven for Halliburton - a sponsor of organized crime and of terrorism. American taxpayer dollars should not be going to fund anything like this, even in terms of looking the other way in the face of so much tax evasion.

In fact, I fail to see any obligation as a taxpayer to protect Dubai from any acts of terrorism anymore, and I fail to see how and why the American people should have to shoulder the cost of providing Dubai such protection.

The UN statement of this past weekend, I agree, is thoroughly irresponsible, as Thaksin does not represent anymore any truly viable legal entity or representation in the kingdom of Thailand and most definitely should not be internationally regarded as one either.
