I am sure this is a gun.
In the clip, another police tried to warn this policeman when he noticed a camera man. They both walked away afterwards. Please see the Youtube clip for full explanation, something that you will never see on any free TV channels in Thailand.

Thank you
A Thai Police spokman said earlier “This guy was not a police, but someone tried to dress up like a police.”
And a day later (10/10/2008), the Press Conference was set up
I am a police in this picture! I am proud!
He confirmed that he was a real police and a driver of a truck loading of special equipments for mob breaking, so he was permitted to carry a gun in the incident. He said he was proud that he tried to protect fellow policemen. And in the clip, he was trying to shot a tire of a PAD’s 4WD truck crashing into them.
Man?? Where was 4WD you were talking about ??
Hey Watch out a camera!
Playing Counter Strike? Wining a game? You looked so happy!
Ha ha! See I am damn proud! God bless you, Thai Police man

New Clip Caught Border Patrol Police Pointing A Gun (28/Oct/08)
In this video clip, at around 0:25 and repeating again after 0:47, you can notice a police sneaking around with a gun pointing toward the camera. It is not sure whether the gun was fired or not, but there is a sound like a gun shot before he moving back and forth looking at his target?

Look at that! Polcie and Gun!

See picture at link below. This also shows police holding a rifle. Even if only a rubber bullet rifle, it still proves that police tell lie when they say police “only used tear gas”.
