Thank god. NHRC is independent from Thaksin’s bribery as well as PM Somchai’s influence.

It is also true that there is a police being skewed with the flag stick. I think all casualties are counted by the Narinthorn Center.

NHRC just released another report yesterday, the translation will be ready soon. Gen.Chavalit Yongchaiyudh will also testify before the panel today. (Please check the update in the post)

I guess to these people affected I should add the policemen (and reporters, bystanders?) that were shot, skewered in the chest and run over by someone in a pickup… do you happen to have any references for these casualties of the action?

As a business manager I feel a bit frustrated by these reports, somehow they are not detailed and specific enough. Compare them to reports from the marketing department rather than engineering and administration that give hard information on which we can base sensible decisions.

Is the NHRC planning to produce a final report or is this one it?

I hope the other committees especially the one considering laying charges actually looks into the detailed evidence which is hopefully still available and all the witnesses so that their reports have some real credibility and are not just witch hunts.

I heard that the number of injuries has risen to over 600 now, but here is the latest report I can find on the Internet for you (as on October 10)

The Narenthorn Emergency Response Centre said two people died and 478 were injured in Tuesday’s clashes. Nine of the injured lost arms, legs, hands, toes and eyes.

The two dead victims are Angkhana Radappanyawut, 28, a People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) supporter, and Pol Lt-Col Methee Chartmontri, a former police officer who became a leading PAD security guard. He was killed in a suspected car bomb explosion in front of the Chart Thai party headquarters.

Among the injured, 85 remained hospitalised at the BMA Medical College and Vajira (32), Central (3), Chulalongkorn (3), Siriraj (5), Rajavithi (2), King Mongkut (13), Ramathibodi (17), Police (8) and Lerdsin (2) hospitals.

Doctors are worried about the condition of Rungthiwa Thatniyom, a 45-year-old PAD supporter who sustained a broken skull and serious wounds to the left side of her face. Her brain suffered serious injury and doctors give her only a 5% chance of survival.

There were also many injuries after one week of incident who needed to be re-treated again because their sealed wound started to rotten due to remaining fragments of explosion.

By this rottening, some injuries with a 1cm explosion fragment inside, which caused a small wound in the first place, have loss their tissue over the size of an egg.

I have been trying to get pictures of wounds which were broadcasted via ASTV several days ago, but I still can’t obtain them yet. a PAD doctor said that these evidences will be used for prosecution later on.

I understand what is being blogged here is a report by the NHRC released on Oct 18….

in particular I note the references to multiple arms and legs being blown off, as follows:

“Again just after 16:00, the police intensely bombarded teargas canisters into the crowd rallying in the Statue of King Chulalongkorn plaza, in series for about 30 minutes, resulting in casualties and severe injuries which included numerous blown off arms and legs. Also Miss Angkana Raduppanyawut died.

Again at about 19:00, for as long as an hour, police officers intensely and continuousely bombarded teargas canisters into the crowd rallying at the junction between the Sri-Ayudhya road and Rajdamnoen road near the Metropolitan Police Headquarter, resulting in a lot of casualties and severe injuries which included numerous blown off arms and legs similar to the prior incident.”

Until seeing this I was only aware from the press… Nation, Bangkok Post mostly, that there was one man whose leg was blown off

I have not seen any reports of any arms being blown off or any other legs… but of course there have been references to numerous injuries

as you are related to the PAD in some way can you advise us from your knowledge of the protesters whether in fact there were any other injuries that involved legs or arms that were physically severed or if any of the injuries actually required amputation?

I would expect that you would try to minimise instances where statements exaggerate or otherwise distort the picture for people honestly trying to understand what is going on and if the answer is that there were not “multiple arms and legs blown off” then I would expect you to at least disclaim the statement by the NHRC or whoever reported this

Even people on top position sometimes lie to other people, so whom to believe?

The best you can do is to browse around the Internet, using Google to search on the topic you want to know, if you can’t find the official translation of the announcement you are curious about. You should look at other environmental evidences like News, Clip Video and etc.

We all admit, some news source and some blogs on the Internet do twist a story… but they are parts of what you have got.

As a PAD supporting site, I do my best to publish whatever is good to PAD and in the same time, trying to be fair to the opposition.
