“Hitler killed Jews but he did several things for his country. He was more useful for the country than Mr Thaksin was.”
This article is the collection of how some people talked about Thaksin comparing to other world famous dictators.
Thank you for an inspiring article on antithaksin.wordpress.com
Thaksin is worse than Hitler?
Mr Banjerd criticised Mr Thaksin during the meeting as a dictator, worse than Adolf Hitler.
Hitler, despite being a dictator, had contributed a great deal to Germany, especially in developing a modern infrastructure system.
“What makes Mr Thaksin different from Adolf Hitler was that Hitler did not do things for his own benefit.
“Hitler killed Jews but he did several things for his country. He was more useful for the country than Mr Thaksin was.”
Mr Banjerd said the stakes were high because the Thaksin system could bring the country to an end.

Thaksin is popular so the others are too
Panitan Wannatayagorn, a political analyst, said: “Hitler was popular, you know. Mussolini was popular. Marcos was popular, you know. Fidel Castro was popular – is popular still today. Some of these people are good. Some are not good. Thaksin is essentially falling into that category.”

How did Hitler and Thaksin rise to power and mange it?
Hitler was democratically elected, and then Hitler’s majority party proceeded to ram laws thru its majority held parliament which gradually put an end to democracy. There was a backlash that comparing Thaksin to Hitler was going too far. Thaksin didn’t hire hit men, and didn’t really put down classes of people. Other countries have had a leader hijack democracy and become essentially a dictatorship, too. The process was the same, the hijacking of the judiciary and checks & balances system. So many leaders have said they will step down at crisis points, but later not actually do so, or at least try their best to circumvent stepping down.

Rise of Thaksin
Thaksin did not begin his business career in the usual manner. His financial success in business owed more to his manipulation of influential contacts, rather than to his managerial acumen alone.
A democratic hero who became rich from the military coup (Update 15/Nov)
Looking back on how Thaksin got extremely rich, was it not because of Thaksin dearly serving the coup led by General Sunthorn Khongsomphong and General Suchinda Kraprayoon who formed the absolute authority called National Peace Keeping Council (NPKC) ? The military coup which was staged on February 23, 1991, ousted the PM Chatichai Choonhavan which headed a democratically elected government.
Was it not both husband and wife, Thaksin and Potjaman, who were crouching down to lick the military coup leader’s ass to win the sole satellite concession of Thailand, “Thai Com”. Thaksin always praised General Sunthorn “If without this elder brother of mine, I will not have today”. Don’t they remember the trembling bodies and the flattering behaviours of them fawning over the military coup leader, General Sunthorn, on December, 17, 1993 when Thai Com satellite took off into the space from French Ghiana launching pad?

Thaksin went on to enter politics, and he established his Thai Rak Thai Party (TRT) in 1998 – on the same day on which the French monarchy had been deposed, 209 years earlier. Thaksin was to spend a great deal of his own money building an effective campaign team for TRT. Many members of his team were former members of the (Maoist) Communist Party of Thailand. The Thaksin team also contained individuals who had previously supported the October 14 democratic reform movement. The formation of TRT was a great success, as certain groups of conservatives – in the TRT camp – appeared willing to eschew their former political philosophy for the benefits of Thaksin’s money. Thus Thai society was able to witness a growing political rift between the political aspirations of its disenchanted former Maoists and its old guard of bureaucrats – who continued to doggedly serve the notion of an absolute monarchy . These two political poles are now locked in mortal combat, with the former committed to serving the needs of modern-day capitalism, and the latter committed to preventing the rise of TRT’s capitalist supporters to the main seat of power.
Thaksin
(…)It is obvious to me that our nation’s system of democracy, under a constitutional monarchy, faces grave risks from Thaksin s continual craving for power. Thaksin is now able to largely dictate the course of Thai politics, in addition to being able to control the fate of those politicians who either favor or oppose him. During Thaksin’s tenure in government, a great deal of corruption is alleged to have taken place. It is also noteworthy that, after Thaksin s initial rise to power, many websites sprang up to portray our monarchy in a negative light. The Thai Royalty commands the highest respect of the vast majority of Thais, but those wrongdoers who seek to discredit HM the King – many of whom receive Thaksin s tacit support – have yet to receive the ultimate penalty [of lese majest prosecution] for their
crimes. The Thaksin governments abused many of the powers they were granted through the ballot box. Not only did the Thaksin administration initiate a policy that promoted the extra-judicial killing of drug-dealers, but it also used those same powers to victimize and silence its critics in non-governmental organizations….

Trying to reclaim his power again using his so-called democracy
Thaksin decided to prove his popularity and re-establish his mandate by dissolving parliament and holding a new election, which would not only prove to the public that he is still the overwhelming choice of the people, so the vocal minority would be somewhat silenced by the democratic process, but perhaps also force any wavering members of his own party to choose which side to be on, otherwise he would find other people to replace them and get voted into parliament.

How did Thaksin kill so many people?
Thaksin announced a new round of the anti-drug campaign that began in February 2003. Promising “brutal measures” against drug traffickers, Thaksin said, “Drug dealers and traffickers are heartless and wicked. All of them must be sent to meet the guardian of hell, so that there will not be any drugs in the country.”
Thaksin’s remarks suggest a revival of last year’s deadly drug crackdown. Between February and May 2003, some 2,275 suspected drug offenders were shot dead in Thailand in apparent extrajudicial executions. The United Nations special rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, Asma Jahangir, expressed “deep concern at reports of more than 100 deaths in Thailand in connection with a crackdown on the drug trade.” During the first phases of the drug crackdown, the country’s homicide rate more than doubled.
For me, Thaksin is best remembered for the massacre in Takbai, where 84 Muslim protesters died in police custody, and many more deaths are unaccounted for. Some of those dead are my Southern Thai relatives. …..
And Thaksin is also best remembered to the disappearance of a Muslim civil rights lawyer, Mr. Somchai Neelapaijit, who steadfastly fought for cases of human right abuses by the Thai authorities against Muslims in Thai. He is presumed dead in the hands of security forces.

“Thaksin killed many people, over 2,000, and did not get a penalty,” said Prachai. “Remember his massacres at Krue Se and Tak Bai. At Tak Bai, he was even more clever than Hitler. Hitler used gas to kill the Jews. Thaksin, he just packed together those young men. They produced their own gas. And died. Thaksin didn’t even have to add gas.”
Thaksin, Hitler and their syndicates are alike
”World War Two occurred because of Adolf Hitler and only a few syndicates who were holding on to power to rule the world. Our country also has such people,” he said. ”But the nation is sacred. People who think of using it for personal or group benefits will end in misery because Phra Sayam Thewathirat [the country's guardian spirit] always protects good people and condemns bad people to ceaseless suffering,”
“Hitler and a few of his people were greedy and made people fight. Our country also has this type of people,” said Prem.

Some of his cabinet reshuffles were entertaining. One of my favorite comments by Thaksin was: “People just want positions, not responsibilities.” I guess that can be interpreted as acknowledging that they wanted power and under the table money, but did not really take enough interest in their work and responsibilities. You could see it from the outset. People were heading up ministries whereby they had relatively little educational background or work experience to understand what they were managing. (However, I dealt with this in Washington, D.C., writing primers for political appointee new Directors about the basics… so what’s new, it happens in most governments. I could very much empathize with Thaksin when he said that.)

Hitler, Marcos, and Sueharto did take so many years to divide their countries but for Thaksin?
“Hitler spent 30 years to divide the people in Germany, 22 years in the case of Marcos or even 32 years under Soeharto. But for Thaksin, he fast tracked Thai’s society’s fragmentation in so short period of time.”
How did thaksin divide Thailand using his so-called-democracy?
The conflict instigated by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra since he stepped into power is contributing to the political transformation process of Thailand. The basis of participated democracy which consists of the check and balance mechanisms, independent watchdogs, freedom of the media and the right to expression and information has been blocked and marginalized. The democratic ideals enshrined in the 1997 People Constitution are not anymore functioning as they intended to be. Democratization in Thailand has stagnated and fragmented when the populist leader has step into power and promoted the principle of divide and rule to govern the country. With his infamous pronouncement, “which province elects me, I will take care first” has caused rift and vulnerability to populist drive among the Thai society.
Because of these conditions together with low level of morality in leadership of Thaksin that includes: corruption in policy-making level that favored associates and families; privatizing the national properties in order to accumulate higher profits for his owned business empire and the most unacceptable issue of Shin Corp’s stocks which were sold to Temasek Holdings of Singapore with total amount “7.3 Billion Baht” by paying no taxes; has increased the current of dissatisfaction among the mass that has spread throughout the country. The evidences to justify the immoral and corrupt practices of the PM has been gathered and collected. These massive and reliable information are reported by alternative and non-partisan media including unnamed reliable sources from the bureaucracy.

Thaksin, Hitler and Marcos?
Adolf Hitler
The avatar of fascism posed the century’s greatest threat to democracy and redefined the meaning of evil forever.Ferdinand Marcos
Marcos might not be one of the all-time killers but he is certainly one of the biggest thieves in the history of the planet. Estimates of his ill-gotten gains range from US$3 to US$35 billion. Some suggest that the true amount is over US$100 billion, perhaps even trillions of dollars.Thaksin Shinawattra
Perhaps the closest similarity between these two is that Thaksin wanted to magnify himself as The Great Leader, the Omnipotent, and The Economic Genius of Thailand. He was of course just a dangerous megalomaniac, like Hitler, and Thaksin was neither great, omnipotent or an economic genius. He was just a manipulator, a con artist out to scam the Kingdom of Thailand for personal gain.

Thaksin and Saddam?
“Dictator Saddam, though a brutal tyrant, still fought the superpower for the Iraqi motherland. But PM Thaksin is less conscionable than Saddam. For 73 billion baht to his personal pocket, the PM gave both economic and security sovereignty and communication rights entirely to foreigners,” said the Democrat spokesman.
Source: Worse than Saddam?
Thaksin will end like Julius Caesar?
Some scholars in Thailand have explained Thaksin’s situation through the scene of Roman history. In the memory of The Great Empire of Europe, “The Ides of March” which has been recognized as “the day of end of Cesar”, the fateful day that the Emperor Cesar had been killed. Somehow, it may implies that some significant changes would occurr in Thai society since the “middle of March”. Thais should listen carefully whether or not the immortal sentence “Beware the Ides of March” is telling them that “the brightness of sky will shine again soon when the dark power has gone”.
Or, will the end of Thaksin be replayed like that of the classical history of Roman Empire?
“Although, history may somehow or actually happened, what the Thais have done is for real and it actually happened! “
“When the golden sky shines, the brightness emerges, people will be great on the land”

Thaksin and Devadatta?
Devedatta iss not the dictator, but I would like to include it here because he was also very famous in Buddha time. And Buddhist is important to Thailand. The statement below is from Luangta Maha Bua, he is a famous monk with great reputation in Thailand
And this I know from all my ears, all my eyes, and all my heart. This thing that I say. It appears in every aspect. This savagery and atrocity. From the things that will burn into raging fire… [he] clearly aims for presidency now. The monarch trampled, the religion trampled, the country trampled, by this savage and atrocious power in a few people in the government circle. That is the circle of ogres, of ghosts, of trolls, of demons, all in there.
So even Devadatta saw evil, and he was rewarded for his good deed. He would attain Buddhahood. That we made mistakes will pass, will wash away if we see evil [in them]. But what is it with Thailand? What kind of governance? [They] even dare to accuse Luangta Maha Bua of playing politics. Politics, my ass. [Literal translation: Politics, dog’s shit.] There’s only feces all over the country. I brought Buddha’s dharma to cleanse in order for them to repent and recognize good and evil. Because they’re the government. The world flatters them as smart people, but don’t be smart down the toilet. Don’t be smart about putting a torch to the head of everyone in the country, from Nation, Religion, and Monarchy on down. These guys will get burned unless they recognize the truth. I’m saddened by all this. How does this come about?

I will have to talk about those pictures again.
The End of Thaksin – Lesson from other leaders (Update 11/Nov)
Latest reports have been saying that Thaksin is traveling across Asia and—just like other high-ranking officials facing charges in their own countries—may seek political asylum in other countries.
Other leaders, too
In recent years, some leaders and high ranking government officials accused of wrongdoings in their countries have been extradited or deported to their home countries to face charges filed against them.
Based on news reports and our research, Abs-cbnNews.com/Newsbreak made a list of some of the well-known cases of foreign leaders and government officials who have been sent to their home countries or placed under the custody of international courts to face the charges against them. Among these leaders and government officials were as follow:
Alberto Fujimori, Peru
Fujimori was elected for a third term in 2000, amid allegations of vote rigging. A bribery scandal involving former intelligence chief Vladimiro Montesino forced him to flee to Japan and go on an imposed self-exile for five years.
In November 2005, he went to Chile, where he was arrested by Peruvian authorities. He is facing charges of death squad killings of 25 people, illegal wiretapping charges, illegal detention of a journalists and businessman, corruption. The Chilean Supreme Court approved Peru’s request for extradition.
Radovan Karadzic, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Karadzic declared himself as the head of state of the independent Serbian Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992. He is facing charges of genocide at the International Court of Justice in the Hague in connection with the massacre of 8,000 Muslims in 1995. He was removed from power in 1995. He was arrested in Serbia and was extradited last July to the Hague.
Alfonso Portillo, Guatemala
Portillo was president of Guatemala from 2000 to 2004. He is facing corruption charges for the disappearance of $15 million fund for his country’s defense department. Portillo fled to Mexico when he lost his immunity from prosecution when his term ended. The Mexican Supreme Court ruled on October 2008 that he should be extradited to Guatemala.
Boris Sustar, Slovenia
A former deputy economics minister, Sustar was convicted of receiving kickbacks from companies in exchange for assisting them in getting loans from the economics ministry. He fled the country before he was convicted but he was arrested in Canada in 2007. Bustar was turned over to Slovenian authorities.
Charles Taylor, Liberia
Taylor rose to power in 1997 after the end of civil war in Liberia. On March 7, 2003, the Special Court for Sierra Leone charged him with crimes against humanity. Three months later, the a United Nations justice tribunal issued a warrant of arrest against Taylor. The UN said the Liberian leader founded and supported Sierra Leone rebels, who are accused of using child soldiers.
Taylor resigned on August 2003, following calls for him to step down from power. He then went to Nigeria, whose government had offered him a safe exile. Three years later, the Liberian government requested for Taylor’s extradition. The Nigerian government released Taylor to appear on the Sierra Leone court but not to extradite him to Liberia.
Taylor disappeared from his house in Nigeria but was arrested while he was trying to cross the border of Cameroon. He was then brought to UN custody.

Quick Conclusion
This article is unable to cover all the bad things Thaksin has done. I may revise it again when having a new idea.
For now, I can say that. he is among one of the worst devil in this century. Nobody know how he will actually end? Will he commit suicide like Hitler? or be assassinated like Julius Ceasar? or served the death sentence like Saddam Hussein? or died with terrible disease like Suharto? or lived as exile in far away land forever? or end up like some leaders above? More or less, his express ticket “right straight to hell” has been issued.

Hitler promised to solve the economic collapse of Germany but preached hate and fear and solved the economic problems by involving and expanding the military and overthrowing the elected government
Thaksin solved the economic crisis by funding the poor to become productive, developed the country’s infrastructure and won elections because people wanted his policies
Now who is it that is preaching hate and wants another military takeover?
Reply to this comment
PAD don’t want military to take over anymore. PAD also fears that military is on the Thaksin side and PAD may continue to protest even after military taking over.
Most importantly, another military coup = “tearing Thailand ’s Constitution” this is not what PAD want.
David, I don’t know whether you understand Thai language or not, but if you listened PAD carefully, you should have known now what PAD really think about the military.
Thaksin won the support of the poor by promising them debt relief, cheap loans, improved health care, and other services that were not previously part of the currency of Thai politics.
I personally think that his idea was great, he also got support from academics and many elite people for his idea, he seemed to be the best choice at that time… but… his implementation turned out to be real bad and aiming just to benefit himself and his party to remain in power.

Moreover, it is also obvious that he never really intended to develop education in Thailand. He is the one who really think that to make majority of people stupid because it is the way for him to remain in power.
Under-educated people barely know why many Thaksin’s policy corrupted and would only destroy the country in the long term.
Under his government he was well known of setting up a budget, and get a commission from that.. so the government would buy many things just for him and his cabinet to earn the commission. One obvious example was that the ministry ordered a big set of computers and sent to schools in rural area, but those schools didn’t have electricity yet.
It was also well known that the government supported young students to sell lotteries in schools and universities. Some people said it was a honest career and student can earn money since they were young..
Do you know? His cabinet changed ab education minister many times? He used to work in that position also.. and what did he do? He marketted himself by pretending to be a teacher teaching at a local school. (if my memory is correct, the class was broadcasted on the national television)
There are plenty more..

Show me a proof that the poor is more productive under Thaksin.

yes… I imagine the PAD have some frustrations with the military… who do not seem at ll keen to support yet another burst of incompetent government
I guess CNS people are still enjoying the sudden wealth achieved from the 2006/07 episode, so its a bit soon… if the PAD wait a couple of years until they are hungry again?
I guess its also well know that many wealthy people were very disappointed (shocked, suddenly facing lack of money) when Thaksin reworked the lottery system to reduce the “underground” scams that were operating… so no doubt these people would love to get back to their old lotteries cash cow
I am disappointed if Thaksin did not move education forward because this is fundamental to a fully productive and democratic community
I look forward to the PAD encouraging the current government to press ahead with its education initiatives and if not sufficient to push them to do better for all Thai people
I mention here the movement in South America where Bolivia, Venezuela and other countries are picking up on the Cuban example of completely free education and health for all residents and also assistance to any in the world that request… these countries now have the highest literacy levels and very strong negotiated relationships with other countries… a moel that Thailand should study carefully

the Nation reports that Chamlong has offered to pay the allowances and provide food if the military will provide 2 or 3 soldiers to stand with each of his guard points
seems that the PAD are quite desperate to get the military involved… so far Anupong seems to have held the line which seems to be really frustrating the PAD… and other people behind them?
a military coup trying to happen?
what a pity if Thailand doesnt escape from this childish behaviour
the PAD claim the country people are too dumb to vote…
it seems the PAD and their supporters are too dumb and backward looking to:
move into a modern open, transparent world where everyone in Thailand is valued
and gets to express their opinions at the ballot box
I keep saying this is nothing to do with Thaksin the person… its to do with democracy
I dont believe Thaksin will come back into political power in Thailand… but its important that the democratic government envisaged in the 1997 constitution continues… with many different leaders and several parties involved
