PAD Announcement of 2/2009

Concern About The Obstruction of ASEAN Summit

As for the case of demonstrators who support the sentenced-to-jail Thaksin Shinawatra moved to obstruct and impede the meeting of Foreign Ministers and the leaders of ASEAN countries +3+6 between 10-12 April 2009 at Royal Cliff Beach, Pattaya, People’s Alliance For Democracy has a resolution to declare as follows:

1. We call for the government who is governing, as stipulated by the laws, to fully exercise the authority and the state organizations particularly the military, the police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to protect the dignity and honours of Thailand as highly honoured to host this meeting.

2. Though People’s Alliance For Democracy has prepared and is ready to rally to defend the national security, honours and dignity of the country according to the call and the wish of brother and sister citizens, we have been contacted by the government on Friday April 10, 2009, about 15:00 informing that they cannot guarantee whether any of the state officers or some army leaders may take the opportunity to use force to dissolve the rally claiming  clashes between rallying groups. The rise up may be a trap and make PAD a scapegoat of the society or a borrow of PAD’s hand to ignite the violence which would be subjected to be dissolved by the state force.

People’s Alliance For Democracy would like to inform the fact to brother and sister citizens why some leaders of the National Police Office and the Thai Army which have direct responsibility, have been ignorant to carry out the duty to defend the national security, the honours and the dignity of the country, is because it is just a plot to provoke People’s Alliance For Democracy to stage a mass rally to confront or clash with the sentenced-to-jail Thaksin Shinawatra’s rallying supporters. The state’s force would then be used to dissolve both sides claiming the violent dispute.

People’s Alliance For Democracy considers that the government has the authority and the duty to effectively and seriously solve the problems.

From the above reasons, People’s Alliance For Democracy cannot subject people’s lives to risk in this political conspiracy. We request brother and sister citizens, please be prepared for the right situation in which we will release a public announcement.

With respect,

People’s Alliance For Democracy
