Thai protesters

Thai protesters have taken over Bangkok’s main airport, crippling Thailand’s tourism industry and stranding visitors to the country.

Step Vaessen reports from inside the capital’s international airport.

Transcript:

Protesting Thai middle class style’s organized and discipline

After a seize of 5 days, the internal airport looks relatively clean, and nothing seems to be damaged, even the ATM machine still works

Along the followers of pad, many women and elderly, all day long, they watch the PAD private TV channel.. but some say they have become so determined

Although occupying the airport would cost more than 6 billions US dollars, and more than a million people could lose their jobs. The protests do that, understanding.

Anusart Suwanmongkol (Senator): Whether you agree with their tactic that ‘s another thing, but they come with core belief that the nation itself and the institution of monarchy itself might be challenged. They want to stop that.. and that is their core belief, so they want to come together.. You know and the tactic you can argue for or against.. and that is for a history to judge perhaps.

It’s been five days..since the last passenger have checked in here at this airport.. now look more look like a camping ground. But although the demonstrate has caused a lot of incovenience for a lot of people it still mange to create sympathy. And when the next passenger will be able to check in here again no body know
(Step Vaessen – The reporter)

… praying … An unusual pldge for a call to prayer at the departure area has even turned into a praying room. For 160 pilgrims from the South of Thailand are stranded on their ways to perform the hajj. Yusaf…. wanted to take his mother to mecca but ended up sleeping in 5 nights at the airport floor. Angry at first, his mood has now changed.

No no no.. I am not angry at them anymore.. and also I know.. really touched my heart.. I learn something from them to be here for 5 , 6 days. I learn something they.. I feel in my opinion.. they are doing a good thing.. and I start to support them (laughing)
(Yusof Waedaramae – A Muslim pilgrim)

A few hours later, a pilgrim managed to leave for another airport..

The American tourist and Vietnam veteran also wanted to leave Thailand after the medical treatment, but when he’s stranded at the airport he decided to stay. He become one of the PAD spokesman..

A lot of PAD and the Thai people have apologized sincerely about my inconvenience, and I tell them I am not inconvenience at all. I have flight from my country in for another country.. and I support them today. I’d rather be inconvenience that Thai people have been inconvenience for corruption and brutality I feel sorry for them..
(Joe Gibney – American tourist)

Even though the PAD manage to make friends while occupying the airport. Most Thai people think the seize should end immediately, but the authority don’t remove the protester, pro-government supporter are threatening to move it.. But the clash between civilian is the last thing Thailand is waiting for.. Although this elderly woman seems to be ready.
